Ground Source Heat Pumps circulate a water and antifreeze mixture through pipes buried in
the garden absorbing heat from the ground.

Below the surface, the ground maintains a constant temperature even in the middle of winter. The pipework - called a ground loop - is normally laid out flat, or coiled in 2 metre deep trenches. However, if space in your garden is restricted, a vertical loop of up to 100 metres deep can be installed instead.

The length of the ground loop depends on the size of your home. The longer the loop, the more heat can be absorbed from the ground.
