At the top is a dome, which has two functions:
to capture as much light as possible - sometimes boosted by the inclusion of lenses and built-in reflectors - as well as protecting the system
from the elements.
Once collected, the light is funneled down the second component - a tube lined with a highly reflective material. The tube can either be flexible
or rigid - flexible being the cheaper option.
Tests have shown that the rigid tube can deliver up to 10 times more light than a flexible tube.
At the bottom is a ceiling mounted diffuser, with a lens to ensure the even distribution of light into and around the room. The diffuser is double glazed to prevent condensation and heat loss as well as block UV transmission so as to avoid fading interior furnishings.
