Water Harvesting is already used on a small scale by many of us - collecting rainwater in
small waterbutts or waterbarrels for watering
the garden or washing the car.

With a little extra investment however, rainwater can be used inside the home to feed toilets and washing machines.

In terms of cost effectiveness, it's recommended to put in as large a tank as possible, located in
a suitable place for capturing rainwater from the whole roof. Tanks can range from modular wall tanks against the house to tanks that can be located well away from house and installed
above or below ground.

Filters are either installed in the downpipe or in the tank entrance, and a pressure-sensitive
pump sitting in the bottom of the tank, provides water when it is needed.

A system can be added to existing houses
with minimal alterations to guttering, down-pipes and interior plumbing.
